Default Where to start?

Hi everyone,

We would like to move from Hong Kong to the UK (Scotland) next for a couple of reasons:
I have a British passport and would like to start the process for my wife (South African) to get one using the 5 Year Rule and secondly for our children (who have British passports) to live there for the 3 years to be eligible for local university fees.
I’ve looked at the UK Government website, but the only application I can find is for the UK citizen already settled in the UK applying for a visa for their spouse but nothing about us actually not being in the UK.

Could someone give me some advice as to how to start the process and approximately how long it all takes?

Thanks!

Welcome to BE.

I have moved your thread over to our UK Immigration forum. Please note the Immigration forum is for discussion on visas/citizenship/passports only.

All other questions ie university applications, benefits, housing etc should be posted in the main UK forum...

In order to sponsor your wife for a spouse visa she needs to either join you in, or accompany you to, the UK. Either way you will be considered settled from the moment you arrive.

https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa/partner-spouse

Pay special attention to the financial requirements.

More information is available on the Wiki.

Applications are taking roughly three months to process.

Does your wife have any recent British, Irish or other European ancestry?

If you're a British citizen, you are considered to be settled as soon as you arrive in the UK with the intention of living permanently.
If you can't meet the accommodation requirements, your visa is refused.
There are many threads detailing how people have met the accommodation requirements - a site search will find them.
