When exactly is 'date of application'?

When exactly is 'date of application'?
Hello again everybody.
Could someone possibly tell me when the 'date of application' is taken from?
Is it the date when documents are submitted in person at the appointment or is it the date when the application has been submitted online?
The reason I'm asking is I'm applying in Thailand and my bank statements posted out to me here will be older than 28 days if the application date is when I submit them in person at my appointment. They will be within the 28 day time limit if the date of application is when I submitted it online.

One of the most experienced posters on the US forum has the following, oft-repeated advice:
You applied when you clicked "submit" on-line. 
I have three rules for filling out forms - I'm sure they'll stand you in good stead:
1) take each question at face value;
2) do not ascribe meaning to the question beyond what is plainly written; and
3) do not try to alter the question to fit your circumstances
