Which visa should I apply for?
I am a UK citizen living in the USA (been here for 20 years) and have 2 children (both have UK Passports) and a US citizen wife. I will begin a job in January and we want to all move to the UK together at the same time. My wife plans to work after we get there. What Visa should we be applying for?

Thank you for the response San Diego. I read that to settle, the person must have been in the UK for 2 years. She hasn't moved yet. Or does that fact she's married to a UK citizen for more than 2 years trump that requirement? Does this Visa allow her to work or do we need to apply for a secondary work permit?

To become a permanent resident (or settled as you say) your wife will need to live in the UK for 5 years.
She will obtain an initial visa for 2.5 years, renew this for another 2.5 years and then apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Yes, she can work on the settlement visa from day one.

Perfect. Thank you for clarifying. Just to confirm I'm understanding this correctly then... She will apply for a family settlement visa. This will allow her to permanently stay for 2.5 years. Then reapply. After 5 years, she will be applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Meanwhile, she'll be able to work in her profession. Do I have that right?
