UKM double descent
Hello all,
I am seeking some advice from those who have applied for UKM through double descent. We are just putting together our application now for my husband. I've had advice on here before that we could opt for this route and so we are finally putting everything together for the application but it would be nice to hear from people in a similar position to us.
Husband born in Australia 1978
His mother born in Australia
Her father British born and immigrated to AU
Both his grandparents and his parents were married at the times of their offfsprings birth.
The only sticky wicket I forsee is that his mother is British by descent but she doesn't have a passport. I can see on the guidance it says "second requirement at the time of your (my husband's) birth..." could anyone clarify if he meets one of these
being Aussie born and his mum being Aussie born but British by descent?
Evidence we have:

Evidence we have:
- British birth certificate of grandfather
- Marriage certificate of grandfather and grandmother
- Mother's birth certificate
- Mother and father's marriage certificate
- Husbands birth certificate

Unfortunately the Romein case ruling doesn’t appear to apply to Commonwealth citizens.

The Commonwealth citizen requirement for UKM by the Romein route is rather odd, and I do not understand the basis for it. Perhaps it is related to the corresponding provision for Ancestry visas, wherein the applicant has to be a Commonwealth citizen.

Really sorry to hear about this setback for you The Romein case ruling seemed like such good news. I'm glad that your husband at least has the ancestry route to fall back on. Bloody hell, it's like that shampoo advert isn't it - it won't happen overnight, but it will happen. Very best of luck to you, let us know how you're getting on when you can.

Re: UKM double descent
Hello there, I am inquiring if double descent would apply in this case:
My Dad's mother was born in Charlton, Woolwich in 1902.
Would I then be able to apply for UK Citizenship by double descent, or does it only apply if the UK born grandparent is linked to my Mother's side?
Any information would be much appreciated.
Thank you

hi there,
My Dad was born in Cape Town, South Africa, as was I. He was born in 1933 and I was born in 1970.
