Hi

My wife (US Citizen) and I moved back to the UK from the USA in 2018 and my wife now has Residence Card - EU Scheme, Pre-Settlement, Work Permitted Leave To Remain. The card expires in April of 2026, We have had to come back to the USA to care for her mother and we could be back here in the US for up to 18 months. How will an extended absence from the UK effect my wife's current status in the UK? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. M

It might be helpful if you give more precise dates - when did your wife get her visa, and exactly how much time have you been in the UK/US since then? It looks as though from your previous threads you've been in the US for a long time already?

My wife was issued the card in April 2021 and has been back in the States since March 2022

If your wife holds pre-settled status then she can spend up to two consecutive years outside the UK without losing her status although it will likely reset her time towards settled status.
