Default UK passport

Hello,

I was born in the UK and have been living in Canada since 1981.

How do I go about obtaining a UK passport?

thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi, and welcome to BE.

You've not actually said, so just checking, are you a UK citizen? Is it a first time UK passport application or a renewal?

If you were born in the UK before 1983 then, unless your parents were foreign diplomats, you’ll be a British citizen. Follow the link MidAtlantic gave you. If you’ve never held a British passport as an adult then you’ll need your full birth certificate to apply for a passport. This should list your parents’ details. If you don’t have your full birth certificate and you were born in England or Wales then you can order a certified copy from the General Register Office - http://www.gro.gov.uk/
