The cost seems to be the main obstacle to the OP. Makes me wonder how much the OP really wants to be in UK.

Since the OP will be returning from none-red list countries so instead of quarantining at hotel would be required to quarantine at home which would considerably be economical with more breathing space. Also, noteworthy, that op can use the test to release option which will curtail the quarantine period to great extent. I think the cost of retesting and lose of earning while quarantining would only be the main outlays for OP which he need to compare with other risks/inconvenience which might abrupt in future on continued absence from UK.

[QUOTE=Policy reader;12986524 I think the cost of retesting and lose of earning while quarantining ........... .[/QUOTE]

I don't think the loss of earnings has any relevance to this poster - he's been out of the UK since November and is only worried about whether staying out for much longer will affect his obtaining future visas.

Quarantining at hotels is only required for certain countries and Pakistan isn’t one of them. Just make you don’t transit through any of them and you can just quarantine at home.

He says above that they’ll be returning to Scotland, which would mean hotel quarantine.

Only if you’re flying directly to a Scottish airport. Arrive in London or Manchester and you can travel on to Scotland to isolate at home.

Yep, I’ve suggested that above. Not possible at the moment of course, but it’s not too long until the rules change.

Karachi to Istanbul to Manchester with Turkish Airlines and a 2hr gap between flights is an option that doesn't involve any current red list countries. It's a fairly easy to transit at IST, and current Turkish requirements are here. Most of them do not apply to transit passengers, but read them in case.

Drive, train or coach from there to Scotland, and home quarantine.

That’s something that can be done now.

At the risk of repeating myself there’s no formal limit but the longer you spend outside the UK past the six month mark the higher the risk your FLR/ILR applications will be rejected.

This from Brit in Paris is the best advice you're going to get.

1. Return before you're out of the UK for more than 6 months.
2. Stay out of the UK for more than 6 months and risk your FLR and ILR.
3. Abandon your spouse visa and reapply when you're ready to make the UK your home.

It's your decision.

Ooops, sorry for the double-up. Just having my first coffee of the day and am in go-slow mode

Who? Turkey or the UK?

Try this one. I'm not sure how close to the six-month absence you are, but Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi on 19th April is under £150 per adult.

KHI - MAN Etihad 19/04

Either of those options are going to cost. It's just a case on when it's going to hurt the wallet....
