SPOUSE VISA EXTENSION route help

Hi there,
We are applying in a few months for spouse visa extension, my husbands visa expires JULY 2021... do we need to apply 6 months prior?
Also the route, we previously applied with Savings route.
This time can we apply via showing Applicants salary alone? or does it have to be combined with spouse salary. Or Applicants salary plus 16k+ savings?
I am a registered nurse fully employed, but due to go on maternity leave and also have been on sick leave. Will maternity leave count?
Which do you think will be the best route to follow?
Kind regards.

- You don't NEED to apply 6 months prior - currently I understand you can apply up to 6 months prior...... check the website
- if the applicant earns 18,600 GBP you can use just that. Depending on how long applicant has held job will determine what docs you have to present.
- yes you can use maternity payments - more complicated that just straight salary.

Read the following document carefully for financial rules:

Read the following website for further info as to what to present if using maternity route:

Re: SPOUSE VISA EXTENSION route help

- You shouldn’t apply any sooner than three months before the visa expires. Personally I wouldn’t apply until you are within 28 days of expiry. This is to ensure you are not short of the five years required for ILR at the end of the second visa.

- Yes, you can use either the applicant or sponsor’s salary to meet the financial requirements for the second visa.

- If you’re on maternity leave then you can use your normal salary to meet the financial requirements.

- If the applicant is earning more than £18,600 pa then using his salary alone to meet the financial requirements is likely to be the easiest way.

Whoops..... did not read OP's post properly..... of course, she is going for extention (not initial application) so the 28 days is advisable .....

Thank you for taking time out to reply to the post. I had a feeling we didnt need to apply 6 months prior but was wondering whether covid had any further complications.
Think we will apply with just the applicants salary this time if circumstances remain the same.
