Spousal Visa Application - Do I need to register US Marriage?

Hi there!

So sorry if this has been posted before - I couldn't seem to find the info. I am a Canadian living in the UK under the Youth Mobility Visa at the moment. My visa runs out in October, and I would like to start organising my application for the Spousal Visa so that I can remain in the UK.

My husband and I got married in Las Vegas and have the official certificate. We got married in March. I seem to be reading everywhere that as long as the marriage is valid in the US, then it is valid in the UK. My husband is unconvinced and thinks we have to do something in the UK to make it official?

If anyone has any insight - it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

No, you're right; providing the marriage was conducted legally in the US then it is recognised under UK law. They used to be an optional procedure to register an overseas marriage with the GRO but that was scrapped a few years ago.
