Default Researching UK settlement visa

Hi, I am a British national living abroad and married to a non- EU spouse. We are looking to move back to uk so i am looking into applying for a settlement visa for my wife. Interested to know what people think are normal/reasonable fees for immigration lawyer fees. Also if anyone has recommendations for legal firms in the UK I would appreciate it.

That is a very broad question I’m afraid. Some advisors will charge you £1500, some three times that amount. Is there any reason why you feel you particularly need the services of an immigration advisor?

Basically the fear of going through the process, paying the steep fees and then being rejected due to an error in the application.

A good immigration advisor can help you with that; a bad one can screw up a perfectly good application and still charge you for the privilege. If you do decide to choose an advisor then I would pick an immigration specialist, not a generalist solicitor. Personal recommendations from successful applicants are also advisable. Alternatively you can go it alone and use the free advice available on this forum. Are there any complicating factors you are aware of? What are your circumstances?

That is why I was asking for recommendations, I appreciate that if I use someone I want to be comfortable with them. I don’t think there should be anything complicated. We do not have children and have been married for 6 years. My wife is Eritrean. I guess a good start will be to do some reading in this forum.

This forums have tonnes of great information and very helpful people, i managed to successfully do my wife application with help and knowledge on these forums and i'm glad i didn't pay a immigration lawyer in the end. The process is costly as it is without adding the cost of a solicitor and the hit and miss nature of them, overall the process isn't that complicated if your circumstances are straight forward you just need to be organized and methodical to ensure all the evidence is gathered and presented in a clear way.

If your circumstances are not straight forward then i can see why a specialist immigration lawyer might be needed.
