Registering a child for UK citizenship from Australia
I am a British citizen born in the UK and now living in Australia. I have a child born in Australia i wish to get a passport for. I understand they are automatically entitled to be a British Citizen
by descent, however, i am not clear if i need to register them as a British Citizen to then apply for the passport? If they are automatically entitled by descent, does registering them make any difference, other than the fee difference of approx #1000 between a passport or registration? |

You just apply for his/her passport - no need for registration. |

What SDG said above. ^ Your child is British and there is no registration to be made. As Australia is a Commonwealth country there isn't even the option for consular registration of birth for your child. Your child is British and all you need to do to obtain a British passport for your child, is to apply for one.
