Is this person a British citizen?
Hi there, here's a scenario:
Male born 1952 in South Africa to South African parents. Maternal grandmother born in Britain.
In 1962 adopted by British born step father. Adoption took place in Southern Rhodesia.
Sibling subsequently born to mother and adoptive father has full British citizenship through father.
Being legally adopted, is this person also a British citizen?
Thank you

The 1952 male would be entitled to an ancestry visa with a British born grandmother, if a citizen of SA or Zim (commonwealth) Zim is still classed as that for ancestry visas
But its always worth checking the maternal line, when/where mother born..just in case as now the maternal line is allowed as a route.

An ancestry visa is only available for someone intending to work, and that seems improbable for someone who is already/almost 64 years old.

Apparently there is no age limit on an ancestry visa and there is no specification you have to work fulltime, so a few hours, maybe part time..so it is possible (funds permitting, as you cannot use public funds). You don't need a job before you arrive. Holders of these visas can naturalise after 5 years and one year ILR. I found a useful blog on these points on (1stcontact blog 4 avoidable reasons why people miss out on ancestry visas)

For a friend, I looked into an adoption in south africa by a British father who was stepfather to the adoptee. I found that adoption overseas, in that case and year, did not confer British nationality. However I am not an expert so lets see if anyone else can answer.
