Question Passport at UKM ceremony?

I understand from reading a post, which I can't find anymore, that it is possible to get a passport at your UKM ceremony. I think that is correct? If I remember correctly you can either apply at the ceremony with your paperwork or beforehand. I am foggy about this. Please can anyone clarify the best practice for this. I would like a passport once I am approved for UKM.

Cheers, Stef

Hi Stef,

That may have been the case when British passports were still issued by overseas posts but since all passport processing is now done in the UK you'll need to wait until after your ceremony in order to apply. The processing times from the US however are very quick; two weeks in total is usual.

Did you get a ceremony date yet?

No ceremony date. Just an email to retrieve my documents. Is this normal?
Thank you!

Hello BritInParis, is this dependent primarily on place of processing, or place of birth ? I recall when looking up that estimate a while ago, that it reported ~6 weeks, but I assumed that was because my place of birth isn't US, just place of application (I haven't applied yet, though).

It's combination of factors but, yes, place of birth is the most important. Being born in India is likely to mean you will be waiting longer than someone born in the US even if you are both applying from the US.
