Online application for child citizenship and referees

Hi all,

I am at the end of but have not yet declared and paid for my child's online citizenship application form MN1. We have to follow this pathway rather than citizenship through descent because my child was adopted overseas.

We are Australia based but one of the child's referees is in the UK as she has a British passport and is a family friend who has personally interacted with my child over the years both in Australia and in the UK. I had thought that we would use a digital passport photo of my child within the application and the referee would then declare and verify their identity digitally as well, so distance would not be a problem. But so far, no sign of how to upload digital passport photos for this purpose. Is this part of the process paper based still?

If so, should I print out traditional passport photos and then mail it to my friend to sign before I declare and pay for the application? I am worried about being caught out by the 30 working days deadline to get all the documentation to Liverpool, UK.

Should I hold up this part of the process and get the referees to do their paperwork first before I declare and pay the fee? The other referee who is my child's teacher is based in Australia.

Thanks.

I appreciate you have already applied but this part of the process still needs to be completed in ink. You could either post physical photos or send your friend a digital copy for her to print out in the UK at Boots, Snappy Snaps, etc..

Re: Online application for child citizenship and referees

Thank you! I ended up doing the passport photo of my son in Australia, then sent that glued to the form together with the QR code UKVI checklist by express international post. She got it in one week and then she completed it and forwarded it all on to Liverpool by registered post. I sent her a screenshot of her details that I entered on the citizenship application form so that she could sign that those details were correct. So, it worked out in the end.
