There was a Supreme Court ruling which permits joint sponsorship in limited circumstances but only when children are involved so it's not applicable to your circumstances. As mentioned, many families have been separated by the financial requirements, including married couples with children. Unless the OP has access to another passport through ancestry then a Tier 4 Student visa is likely to be the only realistic route if raising £25k is not an option.
