Smile Moving back to UK and applying from Tokyo

Hi to everyone giving their invaluable time to all us newbies and others.

I'm a British citizen, own my own home in London (currently rented out) and have recently retired. I married my Japanese wife in the UK just over 2 years ago (2016) and we also registered our marriage in Japan. We have been living together in Tokyo since end of July 2018. We intend to apply for a spouse visa from Japan and go to the UK mid-late 2020 (depending on how long it takes to apply/receive visa). It's more than likely we will have lived together for 2.5 years but in Tokyo. She is currently learning Business Level English as she wants to work in London. Would our time together in Tokyo meet the 2.5 years living together requirement? I can evidence it through temporary resident card, medical insurance payments, etc. I meet the income and savings requirements.

Also can I still say that the UK is main country of residence or would I have to say Japan and explain why I've been living in Japan and now returning to UK?

Your help and advice would be much appreciated.

There is no 2 year co-habiting requirement for a spouse visa - that requirement is for an unmarried partner visa. You do, of course, need to prove a genuine relationship and not just a marriage of convenience. You do not have to explain why you have lived in Japan.
