Incoming Passport - Can we call UKVI and get the decision over the phone?

Question Incoming Passport - Can we call UKVI and get the decision over the phone?

Our spouse visa was refused, then we put in a complaint and it was overturned. We then had to ship my wife's passport from NZ to VFS Sydney for them to make their final decision and as were unable to get a a pre-paid envelope asked them to call us when they were ready to ship the passport back so we could arrange a courier to collect.

They have just called and we are in the process of sorting a collection to ship back to NZ. VFS were unable to tell us what the decision was over the phone other than a decision has been made and they want to send the passport back to us.

Would we be able to call the UKVI Premium number now and they would tell us the decision on the phone now it has been made? Hopefully it's not a case of they cannot tell us on the phone and we have to wait until we receive the big brown envelope of passport and papers.

Any other ways to find out?

Sorry Leon, no way to find out until your wife gets her passport back. But given that her previous refusal was overturned I'd be amazed if she didn't get her visa. Good luck!

If the refusal was overturned then all it can be is a grant.

WOW - that sounds great news!!

The refusal was overturned as they requested extra finance information (we are doing the cash savings route) so we sent two emails due to UKVI email limit and they appeared to have only sighted the second email as refusal letter only mentioned accounts from second email (with next to nothing money in them). A quick email to [email protected] being nice stating we received no email bounce backs when we sent the two emails (whereas we did for the first big email - with all the statements) and enclosed the first email asking whether they had received it and then we got the overturned email below three days later!

The decision to refuse your visa application has been overturned and our office will now proceed to the next stage of your application. To complete this process we require you to undertake the following steps:

1. Please submit your passport to the Visa Application Centre (VAC) where you made your original visa application .
** See below for exceptions to this

** (For applicants who applied in the United States of America only) It will depend on where you made your application:

If you applied at a Premium Application centre (PAC) you will need to courier your passport to the PAC where you made your application.

If you applied through a Department of Homeland Security Application Support Centre (ASC) you will need to courier your passport to:

VFS Services USA Inc.
UKVI Scanning Hub
145 West 45th Street,
Floor 5,
New York NY 10036


In either case you will need to provide a prepaid courier envelope marked clearly with ‘CORRECTION’ on the outside and an account number so that your passport can be returned to you.


** For applicants who applied via Fiji visa application centre there are two options for re-submission :
Option 1: Submit the passport to the Suva VAC when the VFS office is open every Thursday and first Monday of the month
Option 2: Submit the passport directly to VFS Sydney using the following address -
VFS Global, Corrections and Overturns,
Level 8,
189 Kent Street,
Sydney,
NSW, 2000,
Australia– and supply pre paid return packaging in order for your passport to be returned directly to you

** Applications who applied in New Zealand :
Submit the passport directly to VFS Sydney using the following address -
VFS Global, Corrections and Overturns,
Level 8,

Sydney,
NSW, 2000,
Australia– and supply pre paid return packaging in order for your passport to be returned directly to you


2. Please also submit a copy of this e-mail so that the Visa Application Centre will accept your passport.

3. If you require a TB certificate for travel, please ensure this is up to date and valid.

You will be contacted when a decision has been made and your passport is ready to be collected.

The email still makes it sound like they have to make a final decision which is nerve wracking or is it just the standard email?

It’s just standard words. Unless they suddenly find some new reason to refuse your application it should be a formality.

We got it!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice!!

Key lesson we learnt from the experience is if you get refused and it is because they haven't sighted documents you have sent. Don't wait to go through the lengthy appeal process and just email a nice email explaining all the details to [email protected] and we got it overturned in three days!


Edit: When we arrive in the UK does my wife need to get her visa stamped so she enters using her new Spouse Visa and not a Tourist visa? I suspect it may be all e-visa and no stamps now (should we use the e-passport gates now that NZ citizens can use them) - just want to make sure we do it properly?
We then have 10 days to pick up the BRP.

Congratulations

Your wife can use the ePassport gates but on her first entry I would queue up and get the vignette stamped so you have a physical record of her arrival date and validation of her visa. Once she collects her BRP she can just use the ePassport gates but I would start to keep a record of her absences as you’ll need these for future applications and no passports stamps when reentering the UK makes it that bit more difficult to keep track.
