Default Giving up sponsors passport?

My wife has her biometrics appointment next week in the US. I’m currently over here with her. The check list states that they require both passports along with all the other supporting documents. I was led to believe that I would only need to provide a copy of my passport (the sponsor)
do I have to give up my passport? Because if so I’m going to struggle flying home in a couple of weeks??

The only original document you should be handing over these days is the applicant’s passport.

To add to what BiP said, if your wife as the applicant also wishes to retain her passport while her application is being processed, she can check if the visa centre she's applying at offers the 'keep my passport' service.
