Getting UK Citizenship or Residency

I have recently married a US citizen and am in the process of getting permanent
residency, my AOS interview is tomorrow. Does anyone know how I can go about getting
permanent residency in the UK for my wife?

I assume the consulate might have info. Is it possible for her to be a permanent
resident of the UK if you are living in the US? For the most part, a US permanent
resident is expected to reside in the US.

You'd both need to be living in the UK. The USC would have to apply for a marriage settlement visa from the British Consulate in the USA before entering the UK. This grants "leave to enter" for up to a year. Before the year is up, she stands in a long queue at Loony House in Croydon in order to be granted "leave to remain" (permanent residency).

Yes it is. My husband has leave to remain in the UK, and I am a permanent resident of the US. We are both living in the US. PR status doesn't lapse in the UK until you have not set foot there for two years, and even then it can, in typical British style, be flexible.

Hi ptarmigan,
my wife has pr status and all we did is send off the relivent forms along with Bills, bank statements, passport and ten months or so later it was aproved No queue`s, No medical, No interview and no criminal record check. But i do recall it clearly stating that you have to be resident in the Uk to apply.
This is our personal experience and hope it helps.
You are welcome to email us direct and my wife will give you all the fine detail of the experience if you wish.

Kind regards

For either ILR (permanent residency) or to naturalise as a British citizen there are
UK residence requirements that have to be met.

See http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/

If your wife had not lived in the UK long enough to obtain ILR I do not believe she
could receive it now. She cannot simply become a British citizen simply by being
married to you.
