Default Getting passport back quickly or keeping passport?

I am the UK citizen and my wife the US citizen and we will be applying for a spouse visa. She doesn't want to be without her passport if at all possible. On the VFS Global website, under the standard settlement package, https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/gb...lement-package
there appears to be no charge and it says "Hold onto your passport while your visa is processed." Am I understanding this correctly? Does this apply to both of our passports? (Of course we pay the application fee, medical surcharge and any priority service fee.)

Also, which one of us the the actual applicant?

The following VFS Global website says that there IS charge for keeping your passport

https://visa.vfsglobal.com/lka/en/gb...while-applying

I think charges vary dependent on the application office - you'll have to do some further research

The one applying to enter the UK is the applicant. In this case your wife.

YOU as the Brit do not provide your passport ...

Thanks. Is the spousal visa a "settlement" visa?

It is.

For what it’s worth, the ‘Hold My Passport’ service, in my experience, is always more trouble than it’s worth. If you’re going to spend extra, spend it on the Priority service.
