First time British Passport application
Hi All
I am helping a friend apply for her first British Passport. She was born in South Africa, to parents who were both born in the UK in 1918 and 1924. They were married at the time my friend was born in 1950.
My friend has her fathers full birth certificate and the full marriage certificate. My friend has her full birth certificate and marriage certificate.
We have noted that they also require her mothers full birth certificate. How long does it take to issue this after applying and how much does it cost?
I was sure that only the fathers full birth certificate and marriage certificate was needed.
Any advice please.

Your friend can apply for a certify copy of her mother's birth certificate via the General Register Office. Please see link below -
Registration Services - Certificate Ordering Service
If the birth happened in Scotland, your friend should apply via National Records of Scotland -
How to Order an Official Extract from the Registers | National Records of Scotland
Hope the above helps.

Thanks HKG her mother was born in Surrey, so it will fall under GRO. I will get my daughter to do it in the UK as it may be easier.

The mother's birth certificate shouldn't be required as only married British men could pass on their citizenship to their children in 1950.
