Default Fiancee Visa Application Question

I am getting married and my partner has been earning a variable income for the last 12 months, but it will be more than the £18,600.00 requirement. We will have to apply under Part B as they have been with their current employer for less than 6 months. The only problem is that they have recently taken a 6 month fixed term contract paying 27k pro rata. Is this a problem when calculating the £18,600.00 gross annual salary requirement as it seems that it is calculated in 2 steps

1. Gross Annual Salary equal to or in excess of 18,600.00
2. Income over past 12 months equal to or in excess of 18,600.00.
