canton. grandfathers birth certificate/marriage license. His docs basically. She'd have to spend a month in italy to try and find them...

Presumably the grandfather was born and married in Italy? Do you know where?

yes. he was born in italy but married over here. We're not sure when he naturalized - or if he did. We looked into this a while back but it seemed a very lengthy process so abandoned it.

It may be very well worth pursuing given the complexity and expense of the spouse route. Are you aware of the current requirements, particularly the financial requirements?

i'm aware of the requirements. The problem is after next march EU citizens will probably have as hard a time as US.....crazy

Possibly although as it stands the transition period means your wife could arrive as an Italian citizen up until 31 December 2020 and apply to stay under the current rules. If you were willing to PM me the grandfather’s details I’ll see if I can’t at least some of the missing information for you.
