According to the law you could just turn up at the border with your marriage certificate, passports and Italian residence permits and the border agents would have to let you in. I saw a report this week from someone who successfully did that. But you have to drive or take the train, no airline will let you board under those circumstances.

It's called "Stump Code 1A" As you are in Italy, Just pick your bags and have your marriage certificate and passport with you and go with your wife to the UK by taking a train/ferry and at the port ask for Stump code 1A as a family member of an EEA national and they will argue with you but at the end you'll get it..simples..if you're in Europe, no need to apply for a family permit..you just go and they'll let u in, as long as u can prove your identity and relationship to the EEA national.
