Do I need a lawyer for the application?
I'm just starting to look into the process of getting a spouse visa for my partner and I'm curious to know if I'll need to engage a lawyer to help. Our application seems quite straightforward. Did you all use lawyers?

It does take time and advance planning to get all your documents, lack of time is one reason cited by those who've used an immigration agent/solicitor/lawyer. I did mine without any problems at all, helped by the good folk here at BE when I had a question.

Many lawyers have NO experience with immigration; it would need to be a specialist. You would still need to assemble all the documents and provide them to the agent/lawyer, so no time saving there. The application is a 'check box' - you either qualify or you don't, and using an agent adds to the cost, and will NOT make it easier to get the visa.
If the application is straightforward, do it yourself; ask questions if you need help, and someone will provide answers, and likely be way more knowledgeable than any lawyer.

Thanks! Yes, I agree. the more that I look at what's needed, the more I see that it's fine without a lawyer.
