Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Hi knighstrike
How is it going? Any news from ur end. I was looking for some advice...it's been more than 6 months for me and more than a month after the interview.
Strangely whenever I try to get progress from that 0300 number these days, either their system is down or they just can't reach their progress team.
I was wondering if I should contact my mp now. The local elections are around the corner, you think I should email my application story to my mp. Or a phone call would do. Or just wait out which is becoming increasingly irritating.

I think we have different sequence of events. I'm done with countersignature check (they called my friend). They've also already asked me for further documents. The only thing missing now is my interview, which like I said I'll be having tomorrow.
If it has been six months, then I guess it's alright now to go for more drastic measures. Try and contact your local MP and tell him what is happening.
I did that just last month, which is why I think I finally scored this interview. You never know, it might help you. Don't bother calling the HMPO hotline, you are just wasting your time and money.
Good luck.

I'll be having my interview at the consular office here in Manila tomorrow. Currently fixing all my documents and such right now to present to the interviewer.

Our sequence of events aren't all that different. We were asked for more docs back in December. Our counter signature has been contacted and further more my husband was told that all checks have been done and only this interview remains.
May I ask what info u gave to ur mp...I presume, ur application ref number, ur name, date of application submitted?
Thanks for all the advice...

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Hi, so we applied for my son's first British passport from the Philippines in February, his mother is Filipina. I got an email last week saying 'Since receiving the application into Liverpool it has been going through routine security checks. These checks are now complete . The application will be forwarded to our colleagues overseas , where, they will complete their validation checks. Once this process is finalized, it may be possible that you may need to attend an interview.'
Does anyone know how far along the process this is? Are we still far off from receiving the passport from anyones experience?
Thanks for any help!

Anyway, I had just had my interview at the Consular Manila yesterday.
You are about half-way there, I'll say. They have forwarded your documents and applications to HMPO Bangkok who would be conducting the checks of your local documents (e.g. Philippine birth certificate, medical records, etc.)
HMPO Bangkok is quite helpful, courteous and diligent in my opinion compared to Livepool or the consular here in Manila. I've been in contact with them throughout the checks, and they've been cordial. They reply to each of my emails, and it's not the automatic machine response you get from Liverpool. They've asked me for additional documents. Chances are, since your child is also from the Philippines (considered a high-risk country), they would too.
Expect another month or two, then they'll most likely ask you to attend an interview. Then based from what I heard, another three weeks or a month max, then passport dispatch.
So all in all, another three months max for you. One or two if everything is straight-forward.

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Just got some bad news here in Manila. The option to register the birth locally (in 5-10 days) at the British Embassy here is gone. "All applications from the Philippines are now processed by a centralised Overseas Registration Unit in the UK."
If you then go to the gov website, it gives you an even bigger list of requirements than used to be needed (more even than a passport) and informs you that the registration will take at least 16 weeks.
Sadly, that way of smoothing the passport application now seems to be gone. Not sure if it's just the Philippines, but I suspect that other countries will not be far behind.

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Anyone got a definitive answer about whether you have to send your passport in for a "First Child Passport" (born and applying from overseas)? I read here that colour certified copy is OK, but on the most recent guidance notes for the supporting documentation it says:
"Unless stated, we do not accept photocopies or certified copies of documents, or documents that have been laminated."
As others have noted, sending in a passport for the "minimum of 16 weeks" that the passport will take (according to the gov website) is not feasible if you are living abroad. In Philippines for example, you have to show up with it every 2 months to renew the tourist VISA.
But if they simply reject the application because of no passport, then I'm a bit stuffed!

I am also doing the tourist visa every 2 months in the Philippines, they said if you write a note in with the application that you need your passport back ASAP then they will send it back as soon as they receive it. I got my passport back after about 2/3 weeks.

I did not send my mother's UK passport with my application. I sent HMPO certified/notarised copies of it instead.
I haven't heard any complains about it from HMPO throughout my application process. They did ask me for additional documents and interview, but there was no objection raised regarding the certified copies.

Your son's situation is similar to mine. My father is Brit and mother is dual-Filipina and naturalised Brit. I am applying for an adult UK passport.

I am exactly in same situation.
I applied from Pakistan on 15 sept 2014. Can u tell ur story....y did they refer to more specialised team. Have u been called to interview yet? Where are you, in Pakistan or UK?
I haven't come across a singal person who applied from Pakistan....I am trying to find a timeline which would actually tell me how long apps from pak is taking.
My hubby is in UK and he has been in interview more than a month ago. Both of us are British....and even after 28 weeks....no passport...it's annoying....frustrating...and most of all...so helpless....

Good luck.
