Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
No news yet, but I'm giving myself some time until the end of February.
If my passport still isn't processed by then, I'm thinking of getting an ETD then moving to the UK instead.
I've already asked some friends and people I know in England about jobs I could go for and places I could stay at, while I get set-up.
Still, I hope I won't have to.
Anyway, I advice you and your husband to get an ETD for your daughter, if you can't stand the waiting anymore.

Sigh, I kind of regret now that I didn't take it, when I was being offered one.
So I guess, waiting is the only thing we could do now.
If you think it's best for your child to get a dependent visa instead, I think you should go for it. I've heard some people doing it, applying straight-up in the UK instead. Most of them were successful.

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Hi everyone , I was called to collect my son's passport tomorrow from British Embassy in Kabul , Afghanistan . They said it was issued on 16/02/2015 . So my wait is technically over , but I can't believe it until I see them with my own eyes it looks like a dream . I have to say the panel had been a great source of information . Every time I was a bit upset I would read the upsetting stories every body shared . My personal advice to everyone is , if the website says the processing time 12 weeks , you have to be prepared for 18 weeks mentally or if it said 6 months be prepared for 9 months , but meanwhile do whatever you can , contact them regularly , contact your MP , I mean any thing within your capability , but at the same time do not upset yourself or the family by hurrying to it . If your application is genuine it would be done eventually . GOOD LUCK EVERYONE BE HAPPY , BE PREPARED , DO NOT UPSET YOURSELF . THANKS EVERY BODY .

Since we're both in the Philippines, then your daughter's application should be in Bangkok, Thailand. Passport applications from Asia are sent there for security checks. Visas on the other hand, are sent here to our country.
Finally, they're now REALLY assessing your daughter's application. If they're satisfied with all the documents and checks, from what I've heard, you should get in a month or two.
Though prepare yourself since there's a big chance they might ask for further documents and interview (which will be held here at the local embassy). HMPO don't trust us since we come from a high-risk country...

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Hi I am a British National working in Nigeria, my wife is Guinean from Conakry an our son was born in Conakry in January 2014. Last September I made an application for our son to have a British passport. It was issue to us via the high commission in Lagos on February 4th this year. I submitted both our passports, my birth certificate (had to get one from national archives, sent to my parents house who then forwarded to me). Also submitted my wife's Guinean birth certificate, our marriage certificate (we married in Guinea) these were in French so e-mailed as pdf files to uk to a certified translator who then produced English versions along with certificate. All our son's ante-natal records, our travel history, my employment contract plus my Nigerian visa and resident car, my wife's ecowas resident card (had to wait 90 days after she arrived to get), in total took me about 4 months to pull all the information together prior to submitting the actual application. Payment was taken within 2 days of arriving at Durham an that was my only record of receipt ie seeing the payment on my credit card statement, no reference number issued at that point. Heard nothing at all during the first 12 weeks which took me to December. Got my parents in the UK to complain to their local MP (David Liddington who after the event I learnt is Foreign Office Minister overseeing foreign consular services.) Between Christmas an new received phone call from Durham who agree to return our passports to us via the high commission in Lagos. Also had call from high commission in Lagos and booked appointment with them mid-January to receive our passports back, have mine extended by 12 months as it expired on January 20th 2015 and to attend interview for our son's application. This all duly took place and on February 4th received call that our son's passport was ready collection along with all our other submitted documents. Must admit did not believe until passport was physically in my hand. After submitting the application had no further requests for information. My tips are take your time preparing the application, submit everything that they request, have a counter-signator that is in the UK with uk passport, (mine was a life-long friend who lives in the uk), remember the counter-signator needs to know you for a minimum of 2 years not your child. In our case our counter-signator had only seen our son via Skype an facebook a fact pointed out and accepted at the interview. You then have to be patient and not lose your conviction that the child has a legal right to a british passport. It meant sitting in Nigeria from September through to January with no passports or travel documents which was I bit concerning at times, but in the end well worth it. Now applying for family visitor visa for my wife so as a family we can make a visit to the uk an our son can see his british grandparents for the very first time.

Re: Delays in first passport for child born overseas
Hello everyone,
I am new here, so first I wud say it's been a great help reading british expats....in some ways consolidating as well.
I applied for my newborn in October 2014 from Islamabad, Pakistan. I know being a high risk county it will take a lot of time...but estimated time on website is atleast 6 months. My 5 months are almost done. I am really concerned with 'atleast' of that 6 months. Cause it can extend to 9 months too...scarily enough.
Anyways my hubby is in London and he was contacted by email to send family photos back in December...which he promptly provided. In mid February he got another email from passport London office that if he is willing to attend interview in London or he wud prefer that his wife (me) is called for interview in Islamabad. My hubby said he would happily interview in London.
I found it a bit odd as I have never heard of such a thing before isn't the applicant (my son) called for interview with a parent.
Anyways does this mean the application won't be sent to pakistan for processing.
Also I can't find anyone who applied from pakistan, is anyone out there done so....what is the actual turnaround time for applications made from Pakistan.
I m tired of staying far from hubby and I miss my home...

Is a family visitor visa something you need if you are coming over for a holiday now? I spoke to another person who said they had to fill some application out before they went for a visit home recently.

yes you either need general visitor visa or if you have family connections you can apply for family visitor visa. You have to submit all the normal stuff ie host letters, letters of invitation, proof of finances, proof of somewhere to stay etc. Mine was straight forward, I am British national, born and bred, our son was born in Guinea-Conakry but qualified and has been issued with British passport due to his link to me, my wife is Guinean and it is she who needs the visa. She was issued family visitor visa as spouse parents, brother, sister fall within the family criteria. She married to me and is mother of british passport holder
