Depends on which particular country you are applying from but it's usually checking locally issued documents - particularly birth certificates - which means HMPO are often hamstrung by the speed of the local authorities.

Hello guys finally my sons passport it's ready 2go ,
Applied from Kurdistan Iraq
From 17th of March
From 1st of June received email from HM passport asked for my original british passport , and some more documents .
And same time my wife she had interview in Erbil Embassy .
From 5th of November I had interview as well in Durham office .
And finally yesterday my sons passport have issued
Today I received call she told me well sending passport to Erbil Embassy.

I have applied for my son's first UK passport (I am british and his mother is Ghanaian). We applied at the start of July 14 and there is still no progress - roughly 21 weeks so far and counting....

We applied for a certificate of birth registration from the British High Commission in Accra which was included in his application. We have not been contacted for any further documents.

Another family we know that has applied from Ghana, about 6 weeks after us have been contacted for more documents. We have heard nothing.

I have called numerous times and its the sam old lines.... "in progress"

Due to the nearby Ebola risk I have complained to them that I do not have the ability to relocate my family away from Ghana if Ebola becomes prevalent. This was not answered apart from a cut and paste email reply.

I have also written to our MP in the UK

Does anyone have any update on processing times or experiencing similar issues?

How long it takes to process it the passport when new documents request has been sent to them. On their website they say it takes at least 12 weeks to process for applicants born and applying from Ghana.
Any idea please?

I am at 21 weeks, so don't expect to have it soon!! There is basically nothing that can be done aside from wait. If you are going to the UK to live then I would suggest you get a energy travel document and then apply once in the UK. You could retract you current application. When did you apply?

After 23 weeks we have been called for an interview at the British high commission in Accra. Progress at last!
