Citizenship after ILR

Hi All,

Wife has ILR, I've just started looking at doing her British citizenship. Looking at the 'before you apply' section we have everything required except a 'certificate of entitlement for the right to abode'.

What is that exactly, looks complex to even get hold of that before starting the citizenship application. Isn't the fact she has ILR proof for the right to abode, why would she need an extra certificate?

Thanks - RB

Nope - it's early i only need the ILR, you have to provide ONE of the 3 optionsYou also need to provide one of the following:

If she has ILR and is married to a British citizen then she should already have everything she needs to apply for naturalisation.

Hi All,

Tagging onto my post i may have a few more queries. Regarding processing times i know its 3-6 months, if i was planning on going away sometime over the summer what would the deal be with my application for my wife's citizenship? Will she need to be in the country when it is approved and such or do we not really need to consider that? Can she travel while an application is in? We plan on being away in late July for a few weeks - she has ILR - Thanks

There’s no requirement for her to remain in the UK whilst awaiting a decision.

Hi Again,

Looking for some help on this question in my wife's application...

"Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad?"

Do i need to list all the details from her initial spouse visa, FLR and ILR here? Seems like overkill given she has ILR now

Thankyou

Yes, you should list everything.

Thanks Brit,

I'm almost there, a bit confused by the referees form. I've printed one for each of my wife's referees. A couple of points I am unclear on would appreciate any help please

1. Is my understanding of the process for this correct? I mail the form to my referee with a passport photo, then they write the name / date of my wife on the back of it and glue it to the form. Then they would send back to me for me to scan and upload in my documents section? I just don't understand why you would glue the photo to the page you would never be able to see the writing on the back of the photo surely?

2. Is the document loading section available to me once i have filled out all the details and submitted?

Thankyou
RB

I was a referee for a friend a couple of years ago, and I just checked the documents - all I did was sign the declaration and Email back to him, he then added the photo himself (the photo didn't need my signature anyway).

1. That’s correct but don’t bother to write on the back. That’s a hangover from the days when you physically sent the forms in just in case the photos became separated from the form.

2. Yes.

Re: Citizenship after ILR

Good morning,

A year and some later i just submitted the naturalisation application. I have a couple of weeks to gather the documentation before her biometrics, i have it all, just one thing i am unsure on

'Proof of living in the UK for Mrs ****** for 5 years if applying in your own right or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen'

So as she is my wife, proof of living in the UK for the last 3 years, but it states no houshold bills. Is sending her passport enough proof of this or have you heard of people sending additional documents for this one?

Thankyou

Which passport does your wife hold? Does she work?

A letter from her employer confirming her dates of employment plus P60s covering the last three years and her passport should be sufficient in that case.
