Child first UK Passport
Hi All,
We are (naturalized) British citizen parents.
We moved to Canada from UK.
Our child is born here in Canada, now we are planning to apply for his first UK passport but we are little scared in terms of sending our original British citizenship certificates.
As per passport guidance notes following should be sufficient to meet requirements.
1- mother original citizenship certificate
2- child photos and copy of Canadian passport.
But reading different posts on this forum, we are confused do we need to include both parents original British citizenship? and also provide copy of our uk passports?
Any useful advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You only need to include one citizenship certificate but it would be advisable to send both to ensure that your son’s entitlement to British citizenship is correctly recorded by HMPO. Children born in Canada are not able to apply for consular birth registration so this will be the only record. You can also provide photocopies of your British passports - do not send the originals.

Thank for the swift response
Do you know what are these entitlements? just asking to understand its worth taking the risk of sending both originals certs.
Otherwise can I send one original and other parents photocopy of the certificate only?

The entitlement is being born to two British citizen parents. It’s better that HMPO records that you are both naturalised British citizens rather than just one of you. In the future this may prove very useful to your son or his descendants. The risk is pretty minimal if you use a reliable tracked mail service.

Hello BritInParis,
"You can also provide photocopies of your British passports - do not send the originals"
Does it mean photocopy of all the pages? or just bio-page?
Just asking as we are applying from outside UK (from Canada)

Last question sir
Do I have to send my child's original Canadian passport or color photocopy of all pages will be sufficient?
