It took 45 days from when they received my application by post until I heard anything, which was the email to setup by biometrics appt. They took out the fee the same day.

Updates to the caseworker guidance have been made, it seems applications will be approved. See link below.

How much did you pay for the application? We have the same scenario as you, Born post 1983 with maternal grandfather (example 14). I see conflicting information about a registration fee.

I paid 80£ as it's a Consulate birth registration by entitlement.
If the Home Office requests a full fee from us, I would be shocked!

What documentation did you provide as part of your application? Wondering if its worth getting my mom's BP issued before submitting my application. She is based in SA and never applied for any passport (SA or BP) before. Do you think it would impact the strength of the application?

All my uk ancestry/lineage are deceased.
P.S I'm also South African.
Docs:
Birth uk born grandparent
Marriage grandparents
Birth parent
Marriage parents
Birth applicant
Passport - every page
Criminal clearance certificate
If you in UK like myself,
copy of brp back and front.
I have attached dependents to my current ancestry visa.
HO confirms they will not be affected. So if you also have. Make sure to mention this in cover letter.

If you’re a South African citizen make sure you have permission to retain your SA citizenship from the Department of Home Affairs in place before you attend your British citizenship ceremony otherwise you will automatically lose your SA citizenship.

I wouldn't bother doing that first. Will hold no value.

Do you reckon the HO will register your kids if you mention them in the cover letter? I understand this application will be classed as citizenship 'otherwise than by descent' so can be passed to any children born outside British territory. Not fully understanding how its done, automatically?
PS. Thank BritInParis, retention letter all sorted! R300 when I applied in SA, compared with £180 to do it through a document agency.

It's a SA criminal clearance certificate. It's not requested.
Add if you wish. Will assist with 'good character' checks.

Children of parents registering under form ARD.
I had a chat with sable yesterday, they would of course not tell me the exact process but after the chat and asking for a quote, this is the verdict.
- the parent first needs to gain citizenship with Section 4L and only then can a child register.
- child's application under the same legislation as Section 4L and the gov fee is £1012 which puts the application in MN1 category.
- So far I don't see any provisions of this in 'Registration as British citizen: children' other than the current.
- I think their is going to be updates to come in the near future, as the applications of the children are now being processed.
- this will apply for children born in UK and abroad

I'm looking to submit my application in the next 2 weeks. Do you mind sharing what you put in section1.5 on the form? I think I'm there or thereabout with my argument, would be great to compare notes to make sure I've not missed anything
