British Citizenship By Descent
I'm the son of a British-born mother. I live in the US and I'm 24 years old.
My mother was born in the UK in 1967 and has resided there since.
I intent is to relocate to the UK for work and to care for my aging mother.
Do I fall under the British Citizen by Descent category and if so, how do I exercise this privilege?
Is there an age restriction that could disqualify me, for example, if I decide to apply when I'm 44 instead of 24 years old, would I still be eligible?
What is the first step I should take and how long does this process take?

Re: British Citizenship By Descent
I'd like to add that my father is estranged from the family. I'm not sure if his national origin and/or place of birth is relevant, but it would be very difficult to get a hold of him or obtain any documents of his

You're already British. You just need to apply for a British passport. Since you're eligible for citizenship through your mother you won't need any documents from your father.

As you were born in the US I would also recommend consular birth registration.
