Hi everyone, so I am a British citizen by birth (born in the UK in 1992) to a British by decent father (father was born abroad) and non British mother.
My question is am I a British citizen otherwise than by descent? And does that make my child a British citizen automatically? Please note my husband is not a British citizen. Any Info would be highly appreciated.

Just to add if my child isn't automatically British is there any way she can live with me in the U.K. despite being born in a different country.

If you as the mother hold a British passport and was born in the UK to British born parents, then you are British other than by descent.

As such any child of yours, born outside of the UK, will automatically be British by descent.

As you were born in the UK then you will be British otherwise than by descent and therefore any children you have outside the UK will automatically be British by descent.

So the fact that my father was British By Decent doesn't have an impact on the situation?

No. It may prove slightly more difficult in terms of evidence but it doesn’t affect your children’s entitlement. Consular birth registration for your children if available would be prudent.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by consular birth registration? Do I follow the same format on the gov.uk website for applying a first passport online?
