Baby born in Canada

Hi.

I would really appreciate some concrete advice. My wife and I are both born British and so are our parents. We have been living in Canada for 2 years and gained permanent residency here last September. We have just had a baby and want to app,y for a British passport for her.

I have read some many things which have left me confused, I would really appreciate an answer to these points;

Does our baby automatically gain British citizenship or do we need to apply, the UK gov website says we need to apply as she was born abroad, the cost is £750!!?

Can we apply for an overseas passport without her having British citizenship or does our baby need to have this first?

If she can apply does this mean if she has a UK passport she will be recognised as a citizen or will she need to app,y for that?

Thanks in advance...

All you need to do is to apply for her passport, she is already a British Citizen by virtue of her parents..

If you and your wife are British citizens and were both born in the UK then your daughter is already a Canadian citizen by birth and a British citizen by descent. This is automatic under Canadian and British nationality law - there is no need for register - you merely need to apply for her passports.

You will need to apply for her British passport online.
