Default Australian giving notice of marriage.

My Australian fiance is coming to the UK soon so we can give notice of marriage, he's only here for a couple of weeks and will be returning in Feb for a month so we can get married and then I am going back with him to apply for my onshore partner visa.

Does he need to be on a specific visa to just give notice of marriage? Because we've been told he doesn't and now just four days before he's due here we're told he does.

You might have more luck in the UK part of the forum, doesn't sound like this is anything to do with Australian immigration. Unless I am missing something. A mod can move your thread for you.

Yes, if you're getting married in the UK, he needs a visa of some kind.

If he plans to stay on in the UK he needs a fiance visa:

Or if he doesn't plan to stay on in the UK--I think this is what you're doing?--he needs a visit visa for for marriage:

If you want to come to the UK to get married or register a civil partnership, and you and your partner intend to leave the country within 6 months, you can apply for a visa as a visitor for marriage or civil partnership.

He won't need a visa just to give notice of his intention to marry although as WEBlue points out he will need a visa in order to marry you in February. If you're not planning to stay in the UK then it'll be a Marriage Visit visa.
