Applying for New UK Passport
Hi all,
I'm in Italy. Getting conflicting answers from HM Passport Office web helpline. I want to apply for a new passport (renewal) and need to check which ID I should send.
The first adviser said I need address proof, the second said I didn't because Italy is a Group 1 country, so I just have to send my old passport after I apply online.
I want to believe the second one, but was wondering if anyone had experience?

I am not from an EU country but when I applied for my first UK passport, I didn't have to provide address proof. I just had to send my foreign passport and naturalisation certificate.

Your documentary requirements depend on your place of birth and current passport/ place of residence. The online application is the best way to go - it cleartly tells you what you need to submit . I had a passport from a group 1 country but was born in a group 3 country . I had to submit two additional pieces of address proof but still had a 3-day the around on application for my first British passport , same as that for another applicant born in a group 1 country at the same time .
