applicant's parents passports

Default applicant's parents passports

I'm British and my partner is applying for a de facto spouse visa. He was told that he should send in a copy of his parents' passports. Is that necessary? Seems OTT to me.

Who told him? There is no request for applicant's parents' passports in the list of documentation required.
