Ancestry visa or citizenship

Hi,
Still searching options to get my partner into the UK.
His mum (and grandparents) were both in the UK. Would he be able to apply for UK citizenship based on this?
Thanks

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I've been on here.
My partner and I have been together for 5 years. I am originally from UK and he is from Australia. His mum is British but he was born in Australia.
What is the best way for me to get him over to the UK visa wise? We are unsure if he can get British citizenship as his mum was British and he was born before 1983.
Many thanks

read the following to see if your partner qualifies

If his mother is British and was born in the UK but he was born in Australia before 1983 then your partner already has Right of Abode in the UK. He will need to apply for a Certificate of Entitlement though which would cost £324 if applied for from Australia. The cheaper option would be simply to register as a British citizen and only pay the £80 ceremony fee.

How would he come over to the UK in the first place? On what visa? How long does it take to apply and get citizenship once in the UK?

He can register as a British citizen from Australia. He would then attend a citizenship ceremony at his local British consulate. Then it would just be a matter of applying for his British passport. He would then enter the UK as a citizen just like you.

To register as a British citizen costs $913 in Australia.

Not for a Section 4C registration which is what your partner would fall under. The application is free but he'll need to attend a citizenship ceremony for which a £80 administration fee is payable.
