I have one quick question, maybe somebody knows the answer to this:

I am wondering, could British Citizens work, study and live in Hong Kong before 1997 without any restrictions?

Sorry for the later reply. Yes up until 1997 British Citiizens were able stay and work without a work permit. The only restriction was that when you entered Hong Kong the stamp in your passport stated you could stay 1 year. As long as you left and came back you kept getting further 1 year stamps.
