YMCA hotel was good. We stayed there for 10 days. The hotel near Star Ferry only a walking distance

We stayed at the City Garden last year for a couple of nights. We were on a stopover on way to Oz so booked hotel as part of flight package. Not sure how expensive it was but don't remember it being too bad. Was a lovely hotel with an outside, rooftop, lifeguard-patrolled pool that I'm sure would be great for your kids. When I went in it, I was the only person in the whole pool which was nice!
Hong Kong's fantastic so I really hope you enjoy your stay!

I havent actually visited but the guys I work with in HK have - their view is its awful. If you've been to Euro disney thats supposedly better , which Makes HK disney about bottom of all the disney's ... The main complaint of the HK guys is that the chinese mainlanders ruin the place and the rides are all slow/soft versions of the normal disney rides. Ive no view of Chinese Mainlanders vs HK guys but they certainly do !

There are a zillion and one better things to do in hK for two grown ups than go to disneyland... ;-)

I would give the Metrepole a Large swerve pal! Its claim to fame is that it is where the SARS epidemic started a few years ago! www.intown2.com has useful info on Hong Kong.

Visit Paguro, a quite cool expatriation website
http://www.paguro.com/hmpg
to get info about Hong Kong. It is free and has got lots of info, here is the link to get to the hotel page, but you might have to register to see it. Registration is free

Thumbs up Re: Hong Kong - Hotels

We stayed at the Ramada on Hong Kong Island, was really nice and the service was great. The trams stop right outside and was 3 minutes to Central for the star ferry, shops etc. Also very reasonable. The Disneyland in Hong Kong was good. If you just want a fun day out and a few rides then have a look - me, hubby and the kids had a great day out and it wasn't too expensive either.....enjoy.

Try looking at the Excelsior Hotel. Probably not the cheapest around, but really well located for shopping, train and harbour. I've stayed a couple of times and will be going back there in May for a few days ( upgraded to Harbour View room last time as it was our anniversary . Well worth the money).
Have a great time wherever you end up.

Hi there,

We visited Hong Kong three times in the last year on reccie visits and the eventual immigration..... We stayed at the Eaton hotel firstly - Kowloon side, quite a way up, but handy for Temple Street night markets - and all the other markets around that area.

Next time we stayed in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. Still Kowloon side (the hotels there are cheaper than Hong Kong island and the taxi fare isn't as much ) but a lot closer to the Star Ferry terminal and all the VERY expensive shops.

Both were nice and reasonably priced. Would recommend either.

Disneyland..... well. We've visited Florida and Eurodisney and were disappointed to say the least in HK Disney. For one thing Cinderella's castle in the middle is about a third of the size! We went on a weekend as the park was open longer, but the queues were ridiculous! We complained when it got to 3pm and our daughter had only managed to get on one ride. They did give us three fast-passes each (eventually!), but I wouldn't rush to go back. The best thing IMO was the special Disney train that had the hand grips in the shape of Mickey Mouse.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Jules

We stayed there on our honeymoon (11 years ago now) and it is lovely. They have a FAB bar at the top with great harbour views.

Aaahhh - memories of times when you could do things like that, rather then traipse around an artificial park following a small sweaty man in a mouse suit!

Have fun!
