Chinese visa with criminal record
 

Hi there,

I have accepted a job working in Beijing in July, teaching, and was wondering about the strictness in getting a visa. I have a misdemeanour on my record from a couple of years back and was wondering if this is likely to affect me being accepted?

it will depend on 2 things.
1. whether the authorities find know / find out
2. what the misdemeanor was

The thing is, it may have been taken off my record by now but it may not. My school are paying for the visa and so I'm guessing that it's not worth not mentioning it on the visa? The school are aware of it. Really hope this doesn't affect it :-(

Does the criminal background check need to be translated by the embassy or can it be just any translator in China who can do this?

My friend has GBH on his record... and still got visas for china.... lol

As for teaching in Beijing... prob the worst city to teach in i'm afraid... you need to go to another city if you can... because competition in Beijing is SKY ROCKETING!!!

And 'SMOG' is terrible be prepared for MASSIVE CULTURE SHOCK

Cheers guys. I have already been offered and accepted a job, that's not the problem. I've just seen these new laws about having a 'non-criminal record' certificate that I have to submit. Obviously as it was about 3 years ago it's still likely to show on my check. It was classed as a misdemeanour which I believe is very minor, and only got an £80 fine. Did your friend apply and get accepted for his visa after these new laws were introduced?
