Travelling to HKG, after Income Tax Problem
Hi !
Would be great if anybody could give me some advice.
I was working for a Company in HKG in 1998. When I left the job, there was a problem with the IRD about income tax which I should pay.(10000 £). As there was a discussion about the days I had actually spend in HKG that year I wrote a letter back to the IRD to explain the situation. Then I stopped writing to them.
Now I want to travel to HKG, but want to be sure that they would not stop me when leaving the country. When does the IRD normally close files like that?
Thanks !
NIK

When I used to live there the information I was given was that the Immigration had stop notices given to them by the IRD, probably via the HKP, so that on entry/departure you were picked up. In reality none of my expatriate colleagues ever got stopped and I know of a handful who 'dodged' the odd tax bill.

Is it possible that your previous employer got stuck with your tax bill and have paid it off ?
