All free vpn/proxy are rubbish. Use paid VPN, i tried a few, there are good and bad ones: vpngates.com – catch up is ok but not good for Live and BBC Sports
Uktvhk.com – works very well for my home, very smooth. It now supports BBC and ITV. Good enough for me and my husband.
ukproxyserver.co.uk – bad, bandwidth test gives only 300Kbps, stopping all the time, waste of money
any other suggestion…

Overplay.net works well for me. 60 countries for $10 USD (including UK, Ireland, NZ, USA, Canada and Australia). Plenty of English-language content to be found.

You can also use a DNS service like unblock-us or unotelly. In my opinion, a DNS service is a better solution than VPN because it's faster and you can easily stream on HD. Personally I use unotelly. It works good and it costs 4.95$ per month.

thanks suggestion. I tried overplay but it was slow for my home, can't really watch ITVplayer.
then I paid for 10-day trial of UKTVHK.com , it works very well for me, probably will make a subscription after the weekend.

tried unblock vpn last month it buffers a lot, my experiences wasn't very good.
Thanks jesspekris, i joined the trial of UKTVHK.com as well and the streaming seems much better and stable for me. BBC is showing "Parade's End" these days, very good one.

For us its been a bit of a disappointment. Not so many interesting story lines as Downton and not such good acting, they all seem too modern.
We thought Parade's End was going to take off half way through last night's third episode but it didn't and they seem to have missed the chance.
We are in UK again for another month so may catch the end of the series.
If back overseas then will have to wait for BBC Entertainment or Diva which show good BBC/ITV drama. Can't manage with the buffering of trying to get some of the proxy stuff to work.

If you have set up a VPN try the BBC iPlayer Desktop. You can download programs and series from iPlayer and watch at your leisure. Not all programs are available straight away but once downloaded you get a few weeks to watch and, more importantly, no buffering.

What's the safest way to pay for these services, I'm not keen on using my credit card, do any of them take paypal?

I got fed up with my VPN going down all the time and gave up on watching UK TV. Until a friend suggested I take out a free trial with Thai Expat TV, and its very impressive I must say. The service offers a 7 day on demand history from a good selection of channel content. The quality is spot on and they take PayPal once you wish to subscribe to the service after a free trial.
