Mar del Plata

I am thinking of renting a mono-ambiente in Mar del Plata for a couple of years after having lived in Uruguay and Buenos Aires for ages. Can any resident of Mar del Plata advise on barrios to be avoided in considering where to start: any other advice thrown in would be welcome.

I'm not sure of British Expats' policy on the providing of links but I'm pretty sure my suggestions will be easily Googleable. There's an on-line forum which exchanges expat information in Argentina but it is predominantly populated by Americans who live in the west of the country. Another forum for expats in Buenos Aires is more cosmopolitan and the contributors, with a few exceptions, live in the east. At least one regular contributor, to my knowledge, has lived near Mardel for many years and may have some opinions to contribute. Me? I've been in and out of Buenos Aires for nearly two decades and, despite the lure of Manolo Alfajores, have never felt the urge to visit MdP. Feel free to convince me that I should!

You are very welcome to post links, as long as you're not affiliated with the company in any way. It's only if one is advertising their own business that it's not allowed, general recommendations are absolutely fine.

HTH.

Thanks! Yes it does help. I'm sure there are lots of Argentina expat groups on the internet and Facebook and beyond but the one I was referencing was https://baexpats.org They are as helpful as they can be and their members live in many places in and beyond BsAs and can often make useful contributions to an enquiry.

Hi.

I live in Uruguay and don't see the attraction of mdp either. Atlantida/Piriapolis/Punta Del este has much nicer coast lines. Mdp is just next to a dirty river and gets really humid and crowded. I believe all of these resorts become very quiet off season too.

I see it on the talk show programs where all the Argentian 'IT' girls go to show off their latest clothes and cars. yukk

Awful beaches by the looks of it.

Well I guess if you just want to try is as an adventure for a bit then go for it. You might be disappointed in the summer.
Just my 2 cents sorry
