2 things:
Dengue is undoubtedly bad news, but did you know about the second strike issue? There are 4 serotypes, i believe that in most of the caribbean only 1 is prevalent. Chances are a first infection wont harm you long term, but if you mnage to not acquire immunity to it, or you are infected with a different type, the chances of hemorragic fever are much higher. However, sanofi pasteur in france have developed a vaccine called dengvaxia which is effective against 3.5 of the 4 [dont ask...]. I was innoculated earlier this year. http://www.dengue.info/sites/default...-april2016.pdf Imperial healthcare in the uk and a few other bodies are working on their own vaccines, but the sanofi pasteur product takes 2 years to grow, i suspect its the best available for a while.
As for the lesser nature of zika and chikungunya, maybe not, all of these virus's appear to carry the risk of future neurological and cardiac complications, one nasty one is that left side heart damage is a defined side effect now of chik and dengue, but zika just isnt statistically meaningful yet, give it time. http://content.onlinejacc.org/articl...icleid=2198550

Here is the latest on Cayman's mosquito problem. There's always something! However... In our 39 years on this Island we have never - touch wood! - gotten any of the usual tropical diseases; our Mosquito Control Unit does a pretty efficient job. During our three years in the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in the South Pacific in the '70s, I managed to catch a dose of ordinary common-or-garden malaria, despite taking the tablets. Not the recurring kind, fortunately.
