Setting up / running a business from home
Hi All
Just wanted to know if one could run a small business from home, while working in a government job in the Cayman. For example, would it be possible to work full time as a teacher, while at the same time, sell children's clothes from home on a part time basis? Or is this forbidden?
Are there any local laws regarding working/setting up a mini business and running it from home?
Thanks
Lemonique

First, you'd have to get permission from the Civil Service, and that wouldn't be automatic for an expat. Second, you would probably need to get a Trade & Business Licence, for which you would need a 60% Caymanian partner. So, the answer is: practically speaking, no you can't. There is some general background information on doing business in Cayman on my blog; but I've pretty much covered your question.
