Crime in Cayman
The latest post on my personal blog is called “Locking the doors and windows”, which is self-explanatory. It describes our progress from the Good Olde Days when we happily left all our homes and cars unlocked, to today when we lock the cars even when they’re parked in the carport outside our kitchen door. And we lock the kitchen door when we’re at the other end of the house.
Since we are a British colony, our Police Force reports to its masters in London and has access to all kinds of expertise and personnel support. Regrettably, it is formidably secretive, and keeps its operational methods very much to itself. We the general public have to guess what they’re doing and why they so often fail to catch the bad guys. Our judicial system is a bit of a shambles, and prosecutions can take years to get to court – long enough, usually, for most expat witnesses to have cut their losses and gone home.
Cayman should not be dismissed as a lawless place, but we who live here have good reason to be wary.

Hi Gordon,
How are you? A belated welcome to BE
Have you lived in Cayman long, and generally have you seen an increase in crime?
