"take cash or gold" to China?
You mean transfer it in a suitcase by boat or cruise ship to China?
And then bring it back to wherever you live in smaller amount?

If you transfer cash from a local bank to a chinese bank [which is as simple as HSBC Hong Kong] a record exists that your tax authorities can know. There is nothing illegal about taking cash or valuables in person and that is not traceable as no record is required of the export of cash - it is the import that is recorded and the chinese dont....

Then you can leave it there to grow / invest or you can transfer some around.

That doesnt sound to me to be a way to have a sound foreign investment. Where do you store your gold/ valuables in China? Is it really a wise idea to invest in something in China as a foreigner ? How do I guarantee being able to freely move my money out ?

He thinks there are guarantees anywhere lol... Chinese big banks are as safe as any other big banks, safer than most actually. Where do you think most investment and profits end up? There is no guarantee from any country that the governments wont produce export controls, but when you own most of the worlds [including america] debt anyway...

My investments are around 1/3 in China, but you have to think of it not just, or even primarily as a manufacture for export economy. They have more population than almost anyone else, and that population is getting richer faster than anywhere. Their demand for just about everything is explosive, and while the continental US shrinks and gets poorer, they get richer, so its not people like apple you need to invest in, its basic/luxury goods makers like the chinese dairy industry or their white goods makers or premium booze makers operating in their country.

I fully expect the cost of a lot of luxury goods to rise in the west, as China continues to take more of it.

So Chinese are trying to take money out of China and foreigners are bringing capital in?

2019- "China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) has rolled out a new set of currency controls to crack down on capital flight from Chinato other countries, particularly targeting real estate investments by Chinese individuals and companies."

This is a big problem for Malaysia's real estate because Chinese are the main buyers there.

Foreigners are bringing investment in because its kept secret and honestly there are good opportunities. Chinese investing abroad has been a boon to many countries, and you can see why the chinese would seek to restrict it, in london there are some amazing things seen, ive seen it first hand. Luxury blocks with extras like gyms clubs and pools, there are a few hundred apartment but only maybe 10 occupants share these facilities because the rest of the owners are chinese or russian investors who never visit. Their apartments can be broken into and the beds fridges washing machines etc stolen fairly regularly and nobody notices if the doors arent damaged. One building was even turned into an under cover hotel, each apt was setup as an airbnb rental before covid.
