Default Violent Crime in St Lucia

Following the tragic events Antigua there was article in the Times today about St Lucia. Apparently a British couple were attacked in their villa. The husband was kicked senseless and the wife raped!

I know instances like this are probably quite rare but it does it get you thinking. While we were in St Lucia (two weeks ago) a drugged up local took a liking to my eldest daughter. He wouldn't take no for answer and when we intervened we got abused and threatened with violence. For those who know Rodney Bay this happened midday by Spinnakers. Dread to think what would have happened if it has been late in the evening with no one around!

To put things in perspective St Lucia for a small island has approx 700,000 visitors a year, along with a residing population of 160,000 people.
Crime of this nature is both barbaric and disgusting, but when it happens the good holiday experience of the other 699,995 people who had a great trouble free time is forgotten and the world just focuses on the negative.

There are disgusting evil people all over the world and even the quietest locations which claim to be crime free have things happen.

All we can do is take sensible precautions, learn as much about the enviroments in which we are staying and above all ask God to protect us on our journeys.

Failing that we will just have to stay home and lock ourselves behind barbed wire fencing for fear of what may happen.

Lets be honest here in the UK is where some of the most disgusting barbaric crimes have taken place. We have serial rapist and murderers, teen yob culture led by a culture of brutal violence, terrorist in our mist (remember the tube bombings), thousands of peodophiles wandering our streets, drug addicts, the highest rate of teen pregnancy in Europe, and the list goes on.

Does that mean we should all abandon Britain and nobody should ever feel free to come here again ?

Completely agree. To be honest the incident didn't put us off at all. We've already booked flights for December. We knew it was an isolated incident and the chap involved was completely off his rocker. The moment we left he was giving someone else grief.

We live in a busy UK city where people are attacked daily, we've had incidents of racist abuse and road rage attacks (interesting enough from another ethnic group).
Having experienced all the crap here we not likely to be bothered by some drugged up lunatic.
