spouse settlement visa

My husband has just been granted a spouse settlement visa to join me from Jamaica in UK. However he has a slight delay in coming to join me. Does anybody know if he has to use the visa within a certain time as he could be delayed by up to 6 months.

Hi, Not to worry on my enquiry as I found out the info I needed.
Luckily the app for us took only 3 weeks from the time we put it in to collection of the visa... but it can take up to 12 weeks..you can see this info at
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/cu...cessing-times/
or http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/cou...ultTableAnchor
My advice is to make your application giving as much info as you can...providing as much documented info....think of it like you are writing a journal...The whole process seems daunting but it really is simple as long as you have done your home work ok...need any more info please do not hesitate to get back to me.

the visa will have a validity of 27 months and if you have not lived overseas together for more than 4 years, the spouse will need to apply for ILR after 2 years of being in the UK.....so you are best travelling within the first 3 months otherwise you will need to extend in the UK. Expensive
Things may change from April as the proposal is to make it 5 years for ILR but the jury is still outish!

Yes I managed to find this info on Border web site thanks, but I wanted to know if he had to use it within a certain time, and yes you are correct he should really use it within 3 months otherwise they add 2 years onto the first 2 years of him living in UK before he can apply for ILR. Wow, it's also best he gets here before April just in case they change to 5 years for ILR as then maybe he will miss that window....

Can i just ask, how do they notify you when they make a decision, do they do it via email or telephone?
